Everybody loves an elegant vanity to add an air of luxury to their bathroom. Picking a beautiful slab of natural stone is always a pleasure, and it gets better when you can appreciate how your bathroom transforms because of it. However, what may start out like a dream addition to your bathroom may not remain that way. After all, natural stone has to be taken care of every once in a while to keep its appearance intact.

Our most recent client, a Briarcliff Manor resident in Westchester, had a beautiful vanity top that had lost some of its shine. The owner was worried about how the once very reflective surface of her vanity had dulled. Since this was one of the most important features of her bathroom, she decided it was time to call a professional Briarcliff Manor stone polishing service to restore the stone's glossy finish.

The thing with natural stones is that, with the passing of time and constant usage, they can be worn down to an almost unrecognizable state. Good care usually alleviates this, but very few people go to the necessary lengths to completely prevent etching and dulling; especially in a bathroom where some substances with highly corroding components—like hair products, soaps and detergents—are constantly used.

To make a very worn-down vanity appear new again, the best choice is to look for a professional hard surface restoration company, which is what our client did. She jumped on Google and checked as many reviews and recommendations as she could on local providers until she found her ideal choice. And she did once she stumbled upon Sir Grout Westchester's website. After seeing some previous jobs on our galleries and noting the quality of our work, she decided to try us and placed a call to set up a free in-home evaluation.

When the date was due, Sir Grout Westchester's owner, Tim O'Leary, showed up at her place to make a complete assessment of the state of the natural stone vanity and offer a solution to restore it. When observing the surface, the owner made emphasis on the dullness. She mentioned that her vanity's surface used to be quite reflective, but that now it was so etched you could barely notice any kind of reflected light. Tim assured her that all that was needed to bring back its gloss was a stone polishing service, to which she agreed.

On the scheduled date for the job, our trained tech arrived at her Briarcliff Manor residence and immediately got to work on the vanity top. Using a hand-buffing machine with diamond-impregnated discs our technician honed out the scratches and etches that dulled the look of the stone. With all the damage to the countertop's surface now removed the tech proceeded to sand the marble with a series of increasingly higher grit diamonds to ready the marble to be polished. The polishing compound restored the reflectivity of the surface back to the high gloss the customer desired. Once the vanity was polished, a premium impregnating sealant was applied to give the stone some degree of protection.

When our client entered her bathroom as soon as our team was done, she could not hide her smile of satisfaction. She turned on a light just above her vanity, and it was reflected in a very mirror-like fashion. She told our team her vanity was just as it was the day it was installed, and thanked them profusely for their hard and efficient work, promising to call for future maintenance.

There are many ways to take care of your vanity. To avoid hard water marks and soap scum, always clean and dry the surface with a terrycloth and never let it air-dry. Air-drying will allow the minerals in hard water to seep into the stone, staining it. Also, remember not to use products that could cause corrosion on the stone and to clean spills as soon as possible. Following these tips will allow you to keep your vanity in the best condition for a longer time.
